North American Energy Internet Research Report
Auther: Pubdate:2019-04-15
Global Grid Forum venue.

Liu Zhenya, Chairman of the Cooperative Organization, attended the forum and delivered a keynote speech entitled "Building a New Era of Sustainable Human Development through Global Energy Internet". Liu Guoyue, deputy general manager of State Grid Corporation, Bi Yaxiong, deputy general manager of China Southern Grid Corporation and other Chinese guests attended the forum and made speeches.

Liu Zhenya delivered a keynote speech at the Global Grid Forum.

Liu Zhenya proposed that the construction of the global energy Internet would accelerate the promotion of "two substitutions, one improvement, one regression and one transformation". That is, clean substitution for energy development, electricity substitution for energy consumption, improvement of the level of electrification in the whole society, and the return of fossil energy to its basic attributes as industrial raw materials. By converting carbon dioxide and water into fuels and raw materials such as hydrogen, methane and methanol, we can meet the needs of human sustainable development. He said that compared with the information network supported by global submarine optical cables and communication satellites, the interconnection of energy networks is obviously lagging behind, while UHV technology is a strong guarantee for the construction of global energy Internet, promoting the transformation of energy allocation scope from small to large, allocation capacity from weak to strong, and allocation efficiency from low to high.

Liu Guoyue spoke at the Global Grid Forum.

In his speech, Liu Guoyue introduced the practice of China State Grid Corporation in the construction of UHV projects in recent years. He said that the transformation of clean energy and low carbon determines that the power system will continue to develop towards a highly clean power supply and wide interconnection of power grids. Facing the future, it is necessary to speed up the construction of transmission and distribution networks with stronger capacity of resource allocation, intelligent interaction and security.

Combined with the transnational power cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong River Basin, Bi Yaxiong proposed that power interconnection is the inevitable choice for the optimal allocation of power resources in the Lancang-Mekong region. According to the endowment of regional power resources, the development of power market and the willingness of countries to interconnect, the overall interconnection scale of the region is expected to increase rapidly in the next 15 years, from the current 6 MW to 30 MW.

Bi Yaxiong spoke at the Global Grid Forum.

At the forum, the cooperative organization calls on all parties to make joint efforts, focusing on promoting innovation in four aspects: development concept, technology and equipment, business model and market mechanism, so as to create a new situation of global energy and power development.

On the 10th, at the Global Grid Forum Symposium on "Opportunities for Cross-border Grid Interconnection and Transmission Network Expansion", the cooperative organization released the North American Energy Internet Research Report and its development priorities. According to the report, North America faces challenges in energy and power development, and oil and gas are still the most important energy sources for consumption. To build the North American energy internet, we should accelerate the development of clean energy, strengthen the interconnection of energy infrastructure, realize energy transformation and green low-carbon development, and build a modern energy system for large-scale production, allocation and use of clean energy in North America.

The cooperative organization has put forward the key points of energy Internet development in North America, namely, the development of hydropower bases in Columbia River, Hudson Bay, Labrador Plateau, solar power bases in the central and southern United States, northern Mexico, wind power bases in the central, southern United States, Quebec, Canada and distributed clean energy sources. We will comprehensively strengthen the construction of key channels, backbone networks and cross-continental interconnection, and form an overall pattern of "North-to-South, West-to-East, complementary water and wind, and cross-continental mutual benefit".
